who we are
Responsive Drivers Uganda (ReDU)is a registered National NGO founded in 2014 and officially registered in 2016. The organization was established to address the rising number of preventable road crashes that claim thousands of lives in Uganda every year.
The vision behind ReDU was spearheaded by Eng. Komakech Joseph Ojambo, a road safety engineer and the Founder/Executive Director. He pioneered Uganda’s first-ever Road Safety Week, launched in 2016 in Gulu City. His concept, later adopted by the Ministry of Works and Transport (MoWT), has since grown into a nationwide annual event that mobilizes government agencies, private sector actors, and communities to advocate for safer roads.
From its beginnings as a grassroots coalition of professional drivers and transport workers, ReDU has evolved into a nationally recognized leader in road safety, public health, and community development. The organization works closely with partners including the Uganda Police Force, Ministry of Works and Transport, UN-Habitat, USAID, MAPPI, District Local Governments, and the Road Safety Advocacy Coalition Uganda (ROSACU)
