1. Advocacy & Policy Engagement
ReDU actively participates in national and global policy dialogues through the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety, representing Uganda’s civil society in international forums.
- Led campaigns during UN Global Road Safety Weeks (2021, 2023, 2024) under themes #RethinkMobility and #StreetsForLife
- Advocated for integration of helmet use and seatbelt enforcement in Gulu and Lira district road safety plans
- Supported local governments to operationalize national road safety policies
2. Community Awareness & Education
We design community campaigns that empower road users with knowledge to make safe choices.
- “Drive to Arrive Alive” and “Wear a Helmet, Save a Life” campaigns
- Outreach via radio, social media, schools, and boda-boda associations
- Road safety clinics and defensive driving sessions targeting high-risk groups
3. Capacity Building for Enforcement Agencies
We equip law enforcement officers and local leaders with the skills to improve compliance and community policing.
- Training on speed management, defensive driving, and enforcement procedures
- Collaboration with ESAMI and Uganda Police Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety
- Regional trainings across East and Southern Africa
4. Compliance & Enforcement Support
Under the USAID Feed the Future IAM Program, ReDU implemented the COVID-19 Market Compliance Initiative in Gulu and Amuru districts.
- Strengthened local market associations’ capacity to enforce public health and safety
- Reached over 8,000 traders and transport operators
- Improved safety compliance, hygiene, and congestion management
